Bubbles

Well, the weather is not the best right now, but I have seen the light of spring (a very short one according to the weatherman) and summer and know it is coming. The whole excitement of the season makes me feel just a little giddy inside. I thought that feeling was best expressed with this page about blowing bubbles.
I made this page as part of my new Just 4 Me Book. We were lucky to share our home with my youngest cousin, Katie, the summer after she graduated college. In between her job hunt and time with friends she spent a lot of time playing with us and just having fun. One afternoon we all were blowing bubbles when my husband got home from work and I decided to play around with the camera settings. I took this great black and white photo of her and waited almost 2 years before finding the perfect page for it.

The paper is DCWV cardstock with a fun shimmer effect. I cut the bubbles themselves using Disney Dreams Come True (thank you Gypsy for helping me find these in a search for bubbles). For the letters I wanted it to look like each letter was a different font. I used mostly Wall Decor and More but with all those B's I had to change it up little. Here is how it all came out:
B: Hello Kitty font
U: Wall Decor and More
B: Doodletype
B: Wall Decor and More
L: Wall Decor and More
E: Hello Kitty Font
S: Wall Decor and More

I also want to mention quickly that my thoughts have been with those who are struggling with major tornadoes and storm systems this past week. I wish you all the best as you search for the calm after the storm.

End of Year

It is that crazy crazy crazy time at the end of the school year when everything needs to get done and I feel I have no time to do it. I just wanted to share with everyone that all is well with me. I am working on a very large slide show for my 8th graders. The show last year was an hour long and I lost count at 1000 photos. This year is shaping up in much the same way only I am feeling the pressure because many students know about last years.  Wish me luck.  I have a few projects that I want to share and hopefully will get to posting them this week. Happy Almost Summer to all my fellow teachers.

Life Happens Page

I love Shutterfly (hope that is okay to mention here). I love them and that is the photo service I use most often. I do not really care about the content sheets they send with every order. I kind of feel like it is a waste of paper to send me this print out (I know many people love it).

BUT...I have saved them all over the years and have them all in an envelope together.
I went away on this scrapbook weekend and for some reason I grabbed that envelope to see what I could use these content sheets for. I decided to do something a little crazy. I cut them apart (180 different ones from different sheets) and put them all on one page. I decided that I did not care if the cuts were perfectly measured all the way around because I wanted a free for all kind of look. I measured a little bit to get the rows and columns in a basically even line-up, but than I just glued them down.
I decided that the perfect title for the page would be, "LIFE HAPPENS" as it is random images from the last 5 years. I cut the title using my Hannah Montana font cartridge. This page is one that is in my new Just 4 Me Book. I have been seeing some really great pages about random things..including people's likes, dislikes, favorite books etc... This page is going right into that book.

Bowling Party, Part 2

Okay so I was so sure I posted the favors and cake from the bowling party...but I guess I did not so I so need to do that! We had my daughter's 5th birthday party at a bowling alley. All these little 4 and 5-year-olds trying to push the balls down the lanes...so sweet and funny. I made the invites using Nifty 50's and went right back there to make the treat bags and cake decorations.

First the treat bags. I cut the bowling pin and ball shape plus the layers in a larger size to fit onto the bag and than I cut the fun background shapes (also Nifty 50's) in red and blue so I would know which bags had more boy themed or girl themed treats inside.

Next I wanted to Cricutize the cake. I had seen this done on a much larger scale for a graduation cake, but because I was sick the week leading up to the party I had to scale back a little bit. I bought and large sheet cake and had them write, "Happy Birthday Sophie" across the bottom of the cake so I could put my decorations in the empty space above. I cut out 10 pins and one ball and attached them with tape to cooking skewers. I placed them into the cake in the correct pattern and left space for the candles. My daughter and everyone at the bowling alley thought it was so much fun.

All About Me!!

Recently I have been flipping through idea books and sketch designs and trying to get inspired to create with them. I have seen so many wonderful things and something that really caught me is all the pages for just random reasons. These pages were taking basic things like relationships, New Year's resolutions and hopes and dreams and turning them into these amazing pages.  I realized that I wanted to have a book where I could do layouts that were just basically random things I cared about or was interested in and did not just have to scrapbook the events in my day to day life.

When I went on my scrapbooking weekend I made several pages for this book. I have yet to share them due to illness right after my trip and very busy catch up time after. Here is the first page in my new album Just For Me!
I wanted a page that explored who I was as a person right now in my life and my girlfriend told me to use what I had written on my blog profile as she thought it was so perfect in describing me. I went with that and selected the words and images to match up to that. These photos are from a wedding I was in. Sadly, the marriage did not last, but I loved the photos and really wanted to use them for something so this layout was perfect.
Starting point
It took me a long time to select the paper and layout for the page. I wanted each word to be just right and placed in the proper place. I played with layers and different papers to get the look that I think scream ME!! I embossed and added some bling as well. In the end I used 15 different Cricut cartridges to make this page (I did not put the word Cricut on my layout because I figured 15 different carts showed that obsession right!). Here is a run down of what was used and how:

Lacy  Labels: The frame backing the photo (cut twice to give a second layer)
Once Upon A Princess: Drama Queen
Gypsy Font: my name
Billionaire: writer
Cherry Limeade: teacher
Going Places: airplane
Hello Kitty Font: ME
Paisley: flirt
Quarter Note: music notes and perform
Gypsy Wanderings: Family
Lyrical Letters: Love
Jasmine: photo corners
Feeling Groovy: Loud
Cursive 101: create
All  Mixed Up (borrowed from a friend): Silly

For My Daughter

My daughter wanted to have a scrapbook of her own to put her pictures in and decorate pages with stickers and other things (she has shown a small interest in using the Cricut so that excites me). I bought her this cute 8 x 8 pink one during the holidays and when I was getting ready to go on my scrapbooking weekend she asked if I would bring it with and get her started with a fun page.

I couldn't say no of course. I decided to do a two page spread of her using some photos I had printed out of her with some of her closest girlfriends at preschool. She will soon be leaving this school to go to Kindergarten and neither girl will go to the same school with her anymore. I want her to always remember these fun times in case we do not stay close to these friends anymore (but I have a feeling we will as one of the Moms is someone I scrapbook with often).

One of the things I love best about using the Gypsy is the search tool. Many carts have a cut that says "friends" so instead of going back to one I know is there and I have used before I did a quick search to friend out which of my cartridges has a cut that said this. This time I picked the "friends" cut off one of my newer carts, Give A Hoot. This cart has great images and sayings on it. and I love the font used in those sayings.
I used Give A Hoot for the cute apple tag I made as well. I found it by searching over the Give A Hoot booklet. I know a lot of people put those books away in storage now that tools like the Gypsy and Craft Room are around, but I find looking through a booklet can give me a lot of inspiration. This was an image I would never have thought of but it fits just right. I added a sparkle brad to give the layout a little bling.
My daughter was very excited. She asked if I would teach her how to make a page just like this one.  A dream come true and an honest compliment! Now that my craft space has been all fixed up I think we can work on that request a little more. I will post pictures of my cleaned up and reorganized space this week.

Mother's Day Notebook

Today is the final day of the Three's A Charm Blog Hop. I have had so much fun being part of this hop and hop you have as well. If you have been following along you came here from Ann at Creative Kuts. If you just stumbled onto this hop welcome and be sure to check out all the postings using the list below. It has been a great 3 days of blog hopping and crafting.

First let me say...
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

I have been a Mom now for 5 years and I really enjoy it. If you have visited my blog before you might have notice my beautiful little girl gracing the pages of my scrapbook layouts. She is a treasure and I love this day to reflect on the joy of being a Mom.

Today for the hop we are celebrating Mom. I made this cute little notebook for my mother-in-law. She is a wonderful women and is always carrying little notebooks around in her purse. I thought having one made just for her would be fun.
I covered the notebook with some basic paper from a large K and Company stack I have and added some simple letters, ribbon and a flower to complete it. The sunflower was cut from Walk in My Garden and the letters for "MOM" are off the Cricut Classic Font cartridge. In order create the darker center on the sunflower I stamped some brown ink onto it.

I have a confession to make about this notebook...Even tough I put an x on the top first page  I still ended up making it backwards and upside down. This is just a little reminder to those who want to make fun little notebooks: Pay attention to the top front page!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am giving away some hop blog candy this weekend. All you need to do is leave me a comment (United States shipping only) and you will be entered to win this 6 inch stack and envelope embellishments from Kaiser Crafts. I would love to have you as a follower, but it is not needed to win.

Now on to my projects for the day...Wish me luck getting to 5

PROJECT #1: Let down your hair.

I made this fun scrapbook page of my daughter the day the Disney movie, Tangled, came out. We had to see it opening day so we went with a close friend and her daughter. For the page I wanted a large statement and felt "Let down your hair" was just right. I cut it with Cursive 101. I also used a torn edge o the paper for fun. I used a tool form Creative memories for this. I got up and pieced this page together this morning after cutting out the words last night to prepare. I hope I make my goal of 5 projects today and I hope you will scrap along with us as well.

Project #2 I wish I could say I was posting a second project, but with the bowling birthday, shopping for Mother's Day and adding a new table to my scrapbook room...it didn't happen. Soooooo  glad I got this first one done this morning.  Hope everyone had a great day. Join us tomorrow for our Mother's day themed gifts.
Now on to : Susan ~ http://www.itsmesusanp.blogspot.com/

Sunday: Mother's Day Theme

Today's theme is Spring:
For my Spring Project I decided to go with a common project for me lately: Gift Bags! I have fallen in love with making personalized gift bags for people and I decided Spring was a great reason to make a gift bag to share with someone I love. This bag may make its way to my Mom on Sunday (if she is lucky) and I am willing to part with it. For me Spring is all about the flowers that pop out to be seen. I wanted this bag to look like a mini garden full of simple blooms.

I started with a simple brown bag. I like working with the paper bags instead of the glossy finished ones because if you have too much adhesive and it sticks out onto the bag it is easier to remove from the paper bags without the glossy finish.
I created a simple white picket fence using a cut from My World. I welded 3 of this cut together using my Gypsy, flipping the last one so it would look closed off at each end. The little scraps of grass were cut using Create A Critter. The stems for the flowers were made using a wavy trimmer from Creative Memories.
All the flowers are from Kate's ABCs. I cut the flower shape in various sizes and colors and stacked the layers making sure you could see all the colors. I rolled the edges up to add some pop. The gems were the final touch on each flower. The fence felt just a little lonely so I added the purple butterfly also from Kate's ABCs
I am not totally sure what I will be using this bag for (but my Mom would love it) so I created a simple place to add in a title or name. I made this little tag using Lacy Labels and had to add some gems as well.

I hope you liked my spring bag and I hope you will continue on with the hop and enjoy all the spring projects we have created for you. I know there is some blog candy along the way and I thought it would be fun to have some here as well. My blog candy for the weekend is.....
Up Up and Away 6" stack and embellishments
from Kaiser Craft

No Cricut Thursday #1

You all know I LOVE my CRICUT and with the edition of the E2 into my life I will be using the machines more and more, but I also want to challenge myself to not use my Cricut.  I think sometimes my pages look great without a single cut off the machine so I am going to try and share a project with no Cricut every other Thursday. Maybe it will inspire some others to create some new projects and hopefully it will allow me to get some of  my pages put together faster so I can have a complete album that still looks amazing.
This week I have a fun page to share with you. I took these fun photos of my daughter and her grandfather on the neighbors trampoline and I just wanted a simple pages to showcase them on. I found this fun paper (American Crafts) and pieced it together to create this four block base. Than I used the Creative Memories Circle cutting system to cut the photos and the backing paper.
The stamp is from Kaiser Craft's Up, Up and Away collection and I felt it hit the target of the afternoon just right. I hope you have a great Thursday and I hope you will join me for my first blog hop this weekend.

Teacher Thank Yous

It is Teacher Appreciation week!
I try to do something simple, but nice for my daughter's preschool teachers each year. While I was gone over the weekend I was making a mini notebook for another gift. I was using a small composition notebook like the one here on the side and my friend Tammy said that would make a great gift for teacher week. She went over to the local Target and picked up a whole bunch of these little notebooks (2 for a dollar) and I taught all the other ladies how I make these fun little notebooks. Now that I say that I so  wish I had taken picture of each step so I could show you but that will have to happen on another day soon (I promise).

Here are the results for my daughter's teachers; I used Hello Kitty Font for the letters and flowers on both.

These other notebooks do not have and Cricut cuts, but I love how they turned out. They were made by another member in my group to give to her kids teachers. She also made a few for her Mom and grandma.
For my daughter's teachers I also made these cute gift bags to put the notebooks in. I cut the apple from Give A Hoot and the lettering is from one of my new go to fonts, Alphalicious. To all the teachers out there, thanks for being in our children's lives.

What a Weekend: Time for some Chillaxin'

I had the most amazing weekend. I went to the Scrap Inn in Rockford, Illinois. A simple little bed and breakfast for scrapbooking!!  Myself and 3 other women spent the weekend creating fun projects, eating home cooked food and even got chair massages (ohhh so good after scrapping late into the night Friday).
Chillaxin' Page by Karen (Groovy Times font)
I got many fun this done and will be sharing projects all my projects soon, but today I wanted to share this fun scrapbook page done by one of the women in our group. Karen has been scrapping for years and creates great projects. Like the other women on this trip she is new to the Cricut machine and only has a few select cartridges. This weekend I basically hooked her on several cartridges and after this fun story most likely a Gypsy.

Karen made a fun layout of her son in their hot tub and was looking for a title to put on top. She decided she would like to put, "Chillaxin" at the top. She asked the group how to spell that and we came up blank. She tried to text a friend who puts on her facebook posts often but she could not be reached so we decided to search for a new title. Low and behold when I went to look for phrases like "chill out" on the Gypsy what pops up but...Groovy Times "chillaxin" we laughed a lot and decided that this was the best page of the weekend because of how much joy and excitement it brought to the group.

I hope your weekend was good and that you will visit again soon. See my post tomorrow for information about the blog hop I will be in this weekend.
